Covid-19: A Public Health Emergency: What Pender Harbour and area residents need to know

 

CHANGES TO ESSENTIAL AND NON-ESSENTIAL BUSINESS AND SERVICES IN THE PENDER HARBOUR AREA

The Pender Harbour and Area Residents Association has prepared the following list of business in the Pender Harbour Area detailing any measures that they are taking to slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus. ESSENTIAL SERVICES

 

A new COVID-19 Emergency Food & Essentials hotline has been set up by Sunshine Coast Community Services for families and individuals who cannot afford food or essential items and are not able to access the Food Bank. Pender Harbour Health Centre (604-883-2764)  phhc@dccnet.com

Open 8 am – 4 pm (closed for lunch 12 – 1). Nurse practitioner Annaliese is available by appointment. Lab service 8:15 am – 2 pm Monday to Friday (closed for lunch 12 – 1). NO registered massage therapists until further notice. If you have symptoms of the coronavirus, phone the centre first and they will provide support and direction. The Health Centre has developed a registry of volunteers to drop off groceries etc. to your door without contact if you are self-isolating/ill. The Health Centre wants the community to know that they are there to help. Just call. 

Pender Harbour Doctors. Call Sechelt Medical Clinic for appointment (604-885-2257) with Doctors Forgie, McDowell and Robinson. The doctors are NOT coming to Pender Harbour.

Marina Pharmacy (604-883-2888). Prescriptions must be phoned or emailed in ahead of time. Only one customer in the pharmacy at once. Customers must practice social distancing. The pharmacy is taking serious cleaning measures. Prescription meds are being limited to a one-month supply. Pharmacist can extend existing prescriptions without the doctor signing off. For non-prescription purchases, please phone ahead of time and your order will be filled and passed to you outside the pharmacy. Pharmacy and drug store closed on Sunday and open 9:30 – 4:30 Monday to Saturday.

NOTE RE Emergency Prescription Delivery.  If you are ill, self-isolating or unable to get out but need a prescription filled, they are to call the pharmacy. The pharmacy will contact the paramedics and give the address and phone number of the person it is going to and the delivery will then take place. Note: Please be kind to the pharmacist when ordering your prescription and to the paramedics—We are all trying to work together and realize that all of us have stress, anxiety and fears too. BE KIND TO EACH OTHER.

Pender Harbour Dental (604-883-2997). Dental emergencies only. Office CLOSED until March 29 and may be closed longer.

PET SERVICES

Madeira Park Veterinary Hospital (contact@madeiraparkvethospital.com 604-883-2488). NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN THE HOSPITAL. Office is open Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9 am – 5 pm. Open Monday to Friday for emergency, food and meds. On call days, Saturday, Sunday & evenings. The vet is available “remotely” (by phone) Tuesday and Thursday 9 am – 5 pm and Saturday 9 am to noon. The vet will speak to pet owners outside until further notice. See their Facebook page for updates.

GROCERIES

IGA (604-883-9100) Nonstop sanitizing. Wipes and sanitizers available for customers. No reusable bags allowed in the store. Open early for SENIORS ONLY Wednesday and Friday 7:30 am ­– 8:30 am. IGA is encouraging people to shop online and lessen the amount of people in store. https://shop.igabc.com/

Oak Tree Market (604-883-2411) Heavy cleaning of anything people are touching (i.e. door handles, counters) three times a day). Staff constantly washing hands. Trying to keep social distancing by not allowing too many customers at a time. Have removed tables/seating from in front of store.

John Henry’s Marina & Resort (604-883-2336). Store and liquor open seven days a week, 10 am to 6 pm. Constantly cleaning most touched areas. Limit two people in store. If self-isolating, DELIVERIES CAN BE MADE within the Garden Bay area. TAKE OUT by store staff is open (Soup, sandwiches & chilli). Special orders for liquor to Allyson only. Inside cafe seating closed, picnic tables outside store. More information in Non-Essential services below.

Bathgate General Store (604-883-2222). Previously ordered and paid by credit card orders are picked up outside.

BANKING: SCCU ONLY OPEN TUESDAY AND FRIDAY

Sunshine Coast Credit Union (604-740-2662) sunshineccu.com. Cleaning. Staff working remotely (videoconferencing). Practicing social distancing—only one member only in the bank at a time. New Hours: Tuesday and Friday only 10 am to 2 pm. Member Service Centre (MSC) is Monday to Friday 7:30 am – 6:30 pm, Saturday 7:30 am – 5 pm.

POST OFFICES

Garden Bay (604-883-1101). Madeira Park (604-883-9333). Open to one person at a time. If self-isolating, call the post office to let them know you are sending a friend and the name of the person. They will have to show ID to get mail. Egmont (604-883-9652). NO ONE IS ALLOWED INSIDE. Customers to remain on the deck, only one person at a time. Parcels are handed out the door (Postmistress wearing gloves). 

POLICE

RCMP street front office in Sechelt is closed. Emergency dial 911. Non-emergency, dial 604-885-2266.

TRANSPORTATION

BC Ferries. Effective April 4,  BC Ferries has reduced service to six round trips per day on the West Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) – Sunshine Coast (Langdale) route. Click here for the new schedule. The ferry schedule between Earls Cove and Saltery Bay (Powell River) has not changed. Passengers may now stay in their cars on any level of the ferry. All food and gift shop service SUSPENDED until further notice.

Sunshine Coast Connector (bus). NOT OPERATING due to Covid-19 until further notice. Check their website for updates http://sunshinecoastconnector.ca

Coastal Rides (ride hailing service) coastalrides.ca. Launch of the service DELAYED until public health directives on social distancing are relaxed.

Sunshine Coast Air (604-740-8889). Office closed. SCA is still open for business for charter, emergency travel and freight services only.

Harbour Air (605-885-8774). Harbour Air will temporarily suspend regularly scheduled flights. Plan is to start flying again May 4, 2020.

Coastal Air (604-885-4422) www.flycoastal.ca all flights cancelled until further notice, we may provide emergency/essential services on a case by case basis.

 

NON-ESSENTIAL SERVICES

 

April Tools. (April 25, 2020) is CANCELLED.

Artist Gallery is CLOSED until further notice.

Aqui Es Mexican Restaurant (604-883-2223) (Harbour Spirit Centre, Madeira Park Road). Open for TAKE OUT ONLY. They are constantly sanitizing the restaurant and the debit/credit machine. Using gloves for cash purchases. Doors are being left open to increase air flow. See photo of menu on Facebook (search for Corner Café Mexican Kitchen).

Backeddy Pub (604-883-2298). CLOSED until further notice.

Bargain Barn is CLOSED until further notice.

Bathgate General Store. Laundry NOT open. See also above under “Groceries”

Blues Festival (penderharbourbluesfestival.com) The Blues Festival dance April 11 is CANCELLED. The actual Blues Festival itself is postponed three months, until September 18 – 20.

Community Hall (Madeira Park). All activities that take place in the hall are CANCELLED until further notice.

Community Hall (Egmont). CLOSED until further notice 

Crowe MacKay, formerly Coast Group Accounting (604-883-2622/604-885-2254). Drop off and pick up for current clients only at this time.

Earth Fair Books is CLOSED until further notice.

Egmont playground. Playground equipment is taped CLOSED. Tennis court is OPEN.

Euspiria café (604-883-0096) CLOSED until further notice.

Garden Club (phgardenclub.ca). Meetings CANCELLED until further notice.

Grips Recycling (604-883-1165). Open, except Wed and Sunday. Sort at home first. Two people at a time in recycling room. One person at a time in refunds room.

Grasshopper Pub/Liquor Store/Pender Harbour Hotel. Pub and hotel CLOSED until further notice. Liquor store open, one person at a time, 9:30 am to 9 pm. 

Harbour Insurance (604-883-2794). Office temporarily CLOSED to walk-in clients. Renewals, policy changes, cancellations, storage policies; temporary operating permits by mail to ICBC only. New plate policies, transfer of ownership, registration of new or imported vehicles must be in person BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Alternately, check with Sechelt Insurance (604-885-3261).

Harbour Pizza. CLOSED until further notice.

Income Tax (Free Tax Clinic) (Harry Drost: 604-741-5132). Procedures have changed due to Covid-19. Click here for more info.

Java Docks cafe. CLOSED until further notice.

John Henry’s Marina & Resort (604-883-2336). See listing under Groceries above. Fuel dock open seven days a week, 10 am – 6 pm. All accommodations, campground, RV’s and transient moorage CANCELLED for the next 30 days.

Liquor Store (BC Govt) (604-883-2737). Open Monday to Saturday 11 am – 5 pm. Closed Sunday. NOT taking empties. Limiting customers in store, social distancing. Sanitizing buggies and contact surfaces.

Madeira Marina  OPEN for business, but no customers in the building.  Taking phone, email or window orders.  Still operating as normal otherwise. Please don’t approach working mechanics. 

Mamas Japanese Kitchen (604-883-9190) mamaskitchen.ca Harbour Spirit Centre, Madeira Park Road). Monday to Saturday, lunch: 12 – 2:30, dinner 4 – 7. Closed Sunday. TAKE OUT ONLY.

May Day CANCELLED this year.

Painted Boat Resort (604-883-2456, 12849 Lagoon Rd. Madeira Park). Restaurant, spa, hot tub and pool are all CLOSED. Resort is very careful with sanitizing debit and credit card machine. Villas available for booking and are kept empty as long as possible between bookings. NO daily cleaning service. Door knobs disinfected regularly.

Pender Harbour Aquatic & Fitness Centre CLOSED until further notice.

Pender Harbour Automotive and Tire (604-883-3646). One customer in office at a time. Constantly sanitizing doorknobs, debit/credit card machines, steering wheels getting in or out of vehicles. Wearing nitrile gloves. Windows open during test drives for maximum air flow. Chains across work bay doors—staff only in work areas.

Pender Harbour Days. CANCELLED

Pender Harbour Diesel (604-883-2616). Limit of two customers in store at a time. Heavy cleaning. Reduced staff.

Pender Harbour Golf Course. CLOSED until further notice. 

Pender Harbour Hikers. CANCELLED until further notice. People are encouraged to hike on their own.

Pender Harbour Legion (604-883-2235). Will likely be CLOSED for a number of months.  The Legion is currently calculating all their necessary expenses and because of the prudent savings put aside, they believe they can survive for at least six months.  They will know better in the coming days.

Pender Harbour Reading Centre is CLOSED until further notice.

Pender Harbour School of Music (www.penderharbourmusic.ca) All groups, concerts, etc. using this facility are CLOSED until further notice. Check website for updates.

Pender Harbour Transfer Station  Share Shed only is CLOSED until further notice. Please hold off bringing your garbage to the Transfer Station unless it is essential.

Petro Canada (604-883-9327). Window shopping only. Store is CLOSED for walk in shopping. Cleaning pumps/handles, etc. two to three times per day. Washrooms disinfected regularly.

Remedy Wellness (in Harbour Spirit Mall) (778-487-2030). No one is allowed in the store. No walkups. Pre-orders only. Phone and leave message with your phone number and they will call back to arrange for your order and a pick up time. 

RONA (604-883-9551). Now closing at 4 pm. Do not enter store if showing any symptoms. Only one person from group or family in store at a time. NOT accepting returns. No loitering inside store. Asking customers consider debit or credit cards instead of cash. Reduced staffing. Consider online shopping.

The Sunshine Coast Community Task Force is a team of volunteers, government agencies and community organizations who are addressing the unique problems we face on the Sunshine Coast because of Covid-19.
