We are fortunate to have adequate grocery availability on our part of the coast. However, almost all of that is transported from off coast. We have only one significant farm growing food in the area (Roosen’s in Kleindale) and it is a blessing, while a number of small-scale egg-producers offer farmgate sales. We know that current Canadian Food Inspection Agency regulations make it almost impossible for those growing farm animals to process that meat locally. How can we encourage more locally sourced meat and vegetables and other food items? What are the obstacles?
